The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to support a new Marine and Offshore Engineering course, which commences in April.
Under the agreement, the RSN will provide instructors and sponsor a 300-square metre Ship Systems Workshop. In addition, the RSN will award up to 20 scholarships to students pursuing this course.
Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, Principal of ITE College East, Tan Seng Hua, thanked the RSN for its "strong support".
He said the Navy's fleet upgrading programmes meant that it was "constantly keeping abreast with ever-changing engineering technology".
"The RSN's experience and knowledge in this field would offer an advantage to our lecturers and students as we prepare our youth to meet the future work demands in this challenging industry," he said.
Commander of the RSN's Training Command, Colonel (COL) Tan Wei Ming, described the MOU as a "win-win situation" for both the RSN and the ITE.
"We will be able to tap on each other's expertise and share common resources," said COL Tan, who signed the MOU with Mr Tan.
