The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) deployed a KC-135 tanker detachment on 13 Sep to the Gulf to support the multinational reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A total of 35 personnel are involved in this detachment, which is expected to last for about 12 weeks.

They will conduct air-to-air refuelling in support of the multinational forces.

"As a responsible member of the international community, we are putting in our little effort to contribute," said Major (MAJ) Lau Tee Chun, Detachment Commander and pilot of 112 Squadron.

This is MAJ Lau s second mission to the Gulf. He had been involved in a similar deployment last year. "We are prepared for any unexpected situations," he said.

Detachment member Lieutenant (LTA) Yusri Abu Bakar agreed that they are very well prepared, psychologically and operationally.

"I am proud to represent Singapore," he said. "I believe we will do the nation proud."
