TRAINING EFFECTIVE MILITARY LEADERS
02 Mar 2016
A team from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Centre for Leadership Development (CLD) was invited by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Command and Staff College to design and facilitate a Leadership Development programme from 16 to 19 Feb for the RBAF Command and Staff Course 6. The SAF CLD has been supporting this programme since 2012.
The programme, held at the RBAF Defence Academy in Brunei, was facilitated by Deputy Head CLD Senior Lieutenant Colonel (SLTC) Daniel Siew and his staff officer 1st Warrant Officer (1WO) Jerry Soh. It was designed to introduce approaches to becoming effective military leaders. Head CLD Colonel (COL) Fred Tan joined the team on the third day of the programme to share his reflections on Command and Command Philosophy.
This edition of the 40-week postgraduate RBAF course had 27 officers and that included 12 International Officers - from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United States.
One of the RBAF participants highlighted in the post-programme survey that the "engagement was outstanding, down to (the) people". And one of the International Officers' noted that the "frameworks (covered) were helpful because they will help me organise my thoughts on leadership". The majority of the participants also indicated that they were confident and committed in applying the new knowledge gained from the programme.
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Saiful Akhmar, Commandant of the RBAF Defence Academy, was at the closing of the Leadership Development module to give the closing remarks. He expressed his appreciation to the SAF CLD team for the continual support to RBAF CSC. The course is designed for mid-level officers to broaden both their professional and academic knowledge, and to develop command, analytical and communication skills in preparing them for higher appointments.
