NSmen taking part in a focus group discussion on 6 Apr, chaired by RECORD V committee members, on ways to recognise the contributions of
NSmen.

After consulting Operationally Ready National servicemen (NSmen), their wives and employers through a series of focus group discussions, the RECORD V committee reveals broad recommendations of more and better ways to recognise the contributions of these men.

To appreciate the Full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) and NSmen who devote precious time and energy to Singapore's defence, the fifth committee to Recognise the Contributions of NSmen to Total Defence, or RECORD V, unveiled a slew of recommendations on 27 Aug.

The recommendations were developed along five key thrusts:

- To meet the rising aspirations of NSFs and NSmen who are now more highly educated and better able to contribute to National Service.
- To recognise the greater responsibilities of NSFs and NSmen holding leadership appointments.
- To encourage fitness among NSmen.
- To cater to NSmen's increased work demands.
- To strengthen cohesion among NSmen and their families.

The committee meets every few years to examine ways to appreciate and enhance NSmen's contributions - and that of their families and employers - to Singapore's defence.

First convened on 19 Mar, this year's committee is chaired by Minister of State for Defence Associate Professor Koo Tsai Kee. It has 18 members comprising Members of Parliament, NSmen from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force, as well as wives and employers of NSmen.
