The Chief of Army of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), Major-General (MG) Rhys Jones, called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence on 20 Aug.

MG Jones is in Singapore on an introductory visit from 19 to 22 Aug.

He also met Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek and Chief of Army MG Neo Kian Hong, and will visit Headquarters Singapore Artillery and the Army's Combat Service Support Command.

His visit underscores the long-standing and excellent defence ties between Singapore and New Zealand. Both armed forces engage in regular exercises, courses and other professional exchanges which help strengthen interoperability and mutual understanding among their personnel.

The NZDF has also provided support for the Singapore Armed Forces' (SAF's) training in New Zealand.

The SAF and NZDF are currently working together in multinational reconstruction efforts in Bamiyan Province, Afghanistan.
