RSS Supreme, the sixth and final frigate to join the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), was launched by Dr Ivy Ng, wife of Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen on 9 May.

RSS Supreme is the fifth frigate to be built locally.

RSS Intrepid, RSS Steadfast, RSS Tenacious and RSS Stalwart were launched at six-monthly intervals beginning January 2004.

The lead ship, RSS Formidable, was built and launched in France in 2004.

"With all six ships launched and at their various stages of outfitting, systems integration and testing, the RSN has reached yet another key milestone in its frigate program," said Dr Ng.

The frigates are stealthy warships armed with advanced combat systems. Due to automation, each frigate requires no more than 71 crew to operate.

RSS Supreme will undergo harbour and sea trials soon.
