Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General (LG) Desmond Kuek was conferred the Bintang Yudha Dharma Utama (Grand Meritorious Military Order), Indonesia's highest military award, by Minister for Defence Juwono Sudarsono on 20 May.

The presentation of the award reflects the warm and longstanding defence ties between Singapore and Indonesia. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) interact regularly through exercises and professional meetings.

LG Kuek was in Indonesia to co-chair the 12th Combined Annual Review Meeting (CARM) with TNI Commander-in-Chief, General Djoko Santoso. CARM, which was held from 19 to 20 May, oversees the full scope of SAF-TNI interactions across the three Services.

Previous recipients of the Bintang Yudha Dharma Utama include former CDFs LG (NS) Ng Yat Chung, LG (NS) Lim Chuan Poh and LG (Ret) Bey Soo Khiang.
